The Yarn Bowl

  • by

Last week I announced that I will be returning to Brisbane this June. Even more exciting: it’ll be at The Yarn Bowl for THREE days- that’s six workshops!! So let’s hear a yarn about The Yarn Bowl!

The Yarn Bowl is located in Banyo, a suburb neighbouring Brisbane Airport. It occupies an old corner grocery store, and in some ways, nothing much has changed: people still pop by regularly to grab their essentials!

Fiona, the owner-manager has exquisite taste in yarn and has curated an incredible range on her travels to various fibre festivals and yarn stores globally. Some of the brands I was excited to see on the shelves and racks were Walcot Yarns (UK), Garthenor (UK), Koigu (Canada) and Magpie Fibers (USA). Fiona also stocks quality Australian brands like Circus Tonic Handmade, Blackwattle and Green Tea Yarns.

Once of the features I liked the most was the library space: two comfy couches and wall to wall knitting and crochet books to buy and/or browse. There’s a large, comfortable learning space adjacent: seriously, this shop is huge! My virtual tour gives a pretty good overview, but nothing beats actually walking through this fabulous shop! I’m very excited about going back!

The Yarn Bowl has a fabulous learning space: bright, spacious and great students!
